The Windsor Lions distributes thousands of pounds to local good causesimage

Another major success for Windsor Lions last Friday evening at Windsor Cricket Club in the Home Park where the Club celebrated the successes of its ‘Big Splash!’ swimathon event held in May. At the Annual Awards evening, over £7500 was distributed to numerous local charities and other good causes.

The Mayor of the Royal Borough, Cllr Mrs Eileen Quick and her Consort, together with over 50 guests and numerous members of Windsor Lions Club attended what was the 19th Big Splash! Awards Evening. Over the 19 years of the event, over £145,000 has been donated to the good causes nominated by the swimming teams. It was a great evening enjoyed by all, not least by the award winners who picked up cheques and, for some, trophies. Among the award winners were Willow Hefferman for best sponsored junior, East Berkshire Downs Syndrome Group for best sponsored seniors, the Windsor Leisure Centre for most laps swum by a senior team, and the President’s Cup to Michelle Rankin for her help in promoting the Big Splash! Event to new teams.

Event organizer, Lion Mike Sells enthused: “We have had another excellent event this evening doing what Windsor Lions do best – distributing much needed funds to local charities and other good causes and having great fun in the process. Roll on May 2016 when we can do it all over again!!”
